A Swedish Christmas January 18 2014
We hope you had a relaxing holiday and that the New Year is kicking off with energy and inspiration.
I spent the holiday with my family and friends in Sweden. Home sweet home or Hem ljuva hem – as we say in Sweden. Although, it is exhausting to travel, I always feel refreshed, energized and inspired after some family time. There is something magical about Sweden and its traditions; the cozy Christmas red against the perfectly stark white interior inspires me so much,
the pickled herring with potatoes, the meatballs and ham with homemade mustard and spicy “snaps”.
the songs sung around the dinner tables and the stories grandpa tells around the fire, the Christmas stars and advent candles in every window.
I personally draw inspiration for my home from my Swedish country roots and love the natural, rustic, re-proposed and antique look. Spaces are most comfortable when I can kick my feet up and relax. It's nice to not worry about stains, scratches or pet hair. I like when the colors blend beautifully together with textures, patterns and different metals. Surprise elements like antlers, leather, stone and fur add interest. Simple and natural beauty is part of the rustic style. Very Swedish and very Harvest.
